I think the enemy targeting behavior breaks down if you ever have a companion with you.Maybe relevant to that, but in the US version at least, the way you're supposed to change pets' personalities - essentially, whatever AI type they use - doesn't work. It's almost like in some cases they're assigned to the wrong enemies/partners. And Pearl, who can't attack, is definitely coded to just avoid enemies, so you can attest that there are different sets of AI behaviors. Larc works fine, in terms of companions, from what I remember. What's weird is this doesn't apply to everyone. Still great games but the lack of care really shows, especially when fans have managed much better.Įnemies - and most of your companions - aren't really aggressive enough, in terms of getting close to whatever they're trying to attack and attacking repeatedly. In FF8, NPCs were sometimes sprite forms of the original character models, that was fine when everyone looked like that, but it sticks out now, especially when it's in a cutscene.įF8 got an arguable downgrade by removing the PocketStation function, something which the PC original and this Mana game have included. In the case of the pre-rendered backgrounds, they not only look worse, but they look out of place next to the character models. All three also have some boosters.Īside from that, all three have common problems like lacking analog controls, no widescreen option, lower UI framerate, no effort to bring 2D assets up to a similar quality as the characters, no effort to make the cutscenes look better. It got an upgrade to 3D assets, actually all three did, it's just more obvious in FF8 because they changed the designs of the main characters. In the UK it's priced to match 7 and 9 which makes sense because they all essentially got the same treatment.
